Buying a women’s electric shaver should be simple right? The shaver needs to only do a few things right such as provide a smooth and gentle leg or bikini line when you are done using it all with the convenience of doing it quickly. There are dozens of choices in the marketplace for electric razors for women so I wanted to simplify the buying process b highlighting what features you need to look for and what features do not add any real value.
What to look for in Womens Electric Shavers:
- Buy a cordless electric razor – a corded one is just a hassle, I just do not like a lot of corded items in my bathroom something about the mix of electricity and power cords. Also if you travel a lot the cord takes up unwanted space and if it is foreign travel yoou will need to buy an adaptor. When looking for a cordless womens electric shaver then make sure it has a long battery life and can be recharged relatively quickly. If the shaver comes with a recharging station make sure the footprint of it make sense for you. Some of them take up way too much space. Many cordless shavers do happen to come with a power cord (or can be purchased seperately) so if you want both you can get it.
- Get a Wet/Dry Razor – most people want to shave their legs in the shower so your shaver should be able to get wet. If you like to shave in the bath then make sure the shaver is fully submersible as some wet/dry shavers are not. Most womens electric razors available today are wet/dry.
- A Combo Shaver/Trimmer is best - with these combo models you can shave your legs and trim your bikini line and do both well. You can also use the combo model on your underarms. Some models also have an epilator but I prefer my pain meted out by the ladies at the salon for wax rather than self-inflicting it with a epilator.
- Pivot Head – you want the razor head to move with your curves so it need to be able to pivot. This makes for a smoother shave and less bumps
- Smoothing Strips or Gels – these strips are usually part of the shaver head and can give immediate smoothing to your shave. They help reduce irriation and bumps. You will still want to use your own moisturizers but anything to avoid irritation works for me. These strips are replaceable as they become less effective so consider the extra cost of replacing them into your purchase decision.
- Fast Motor Speed - The faster the motor, the more the razor should cost. Get the fastest one you can afford. The better the motor the quicker and closer the shave will be.
Feautres You Will Pay Extra for But Are Useless
- Self Cleaning Womens Electric Shavers – I hate these. The cleaning solution isn’t any better than rinsing the shaver under the faucet. The solution is poured into a base station (base stations are a waste of space) and when you dock the shaver it is supposed to clean. What happened to me countless times was when I went to get the razor out of the base the cleaning solution would spill a little. Also – the first thing I would do after taking the “clean” razor out of the base is rinse it off under the faucet to get the solution off of it – which made me wonder why I didn’t just clean my self.
Hopefully, I have helped you narrow down what you are looking for in a womens electric shaver.
